Snuffbox tin, Koenigliche Porzellan Manufaktur KPM; Berlin; 1763–1918, ca. 1765–1770. Snuffbox in the form of a rectangular box with a slightly arched lid, framed in gilded bronze, with a plant ornament around the outer edge of the lid and a lock, on hinges. Around the edge of the lid and the side walls there is a relief with rocaille and floral motifs. On the lid, the bottom of the base and each side wall are painted with colorful fruit and floral compositions including blackcurrant, fig, mirabelle plum or redcurrant and plums. Inside the lid is a painted composition of a bouquet of flowers in a cup-shaped brown vase on a stone tabletop with fruit and a sprig of raspberry flowers; on the edge of the tabletop a small bird sparrow? nibbling a leaf, and above two butterflies flying. Porcelain haberdashery snuffbox. Dimensions: height 3.2 cm; width 8.3 cm; depth 6 cm. Origin: Berlin, Germany., A small rectangular decorative box sits on a flat surface, shown from a low front angle, with a domed lid and a hinged metal band around its edge. The box body and lid are glossy white porcelain with low-relief ornamental swirls, and there are painted fruit motifs on the top and sides featuring clusters of dark purple berries, small round yellow and orange fruits, green leaves, and a reddish curved fruit. The metal hinge and band are an aged gold color with intricate raised scrollwork and a slightly darker patina in recessed areas. The background and surface are a uniform muted gray, and the box casts a soft reflection on the surface beneath it.
