Lion's paw pot with miniatures, Koenigliche Porzellain Fabrique, Meissen ca. 1730, maker: Meissen 1710–1763. Whipped cream pot vessel with squat belly, wide collar around the rim; volute, segmental handle gilded along the spine; on three legs shaped as lion's paws. Body decorated with three oval/quadrangular reserves surrounded by gilded frames with ovals of colorful Chinese latticework and purple-brick-red leaf motifs and Regency volutes—each reserve contains a colorful landscape miniature by the water with staffage: 1 a barrel-wheeler and four men at the quay, 2 two men with cargo at the shore and a woman and three men standing nearby, 3 four men waiting with luggage and sailing boats at the shore. Between the miniatures are two brick-purple Regency compositions with gilding; lion's paws and outer edge of the collar are gilded. Origin: Meissen, Saxony, Germany., A small white porcelain vessel with a rounded body and flared rim sits on three short feet, each foot shaped with a paw-like detail. The rim has a gold band, and the body is decorated with ornate curving patterns in purple, red, and gold. On the front is a painted oval scene framed in gold, showing a few figures standing and seated near a shoreline with a pale blue sky and a docked ship in the distance. Additional decorative motifs in purple and red surround the central scene, and there are touches of brown and green in the painted details. The object rests on a reflective gray surface against a uniform gray background.
