Pot-pourri vase with lid by Johann Georg Buchwald Cologne; 1769–1771. Hemispherical body slightly closing at the top, almost flat shoulders, and a wide neck that slopes obliquely. Low stem widening into a round, wide foot. Neck, base of the belly, and foot enclosed in a wreath of plastic shell ornament painted in purple. Two landscapes with buildings against a background of trees on the body. Hat-like cover with a brim enclosed in a shell ornament; top with a plastic decoration of colorful flowers and a floral handle. Materials: porcelain pot-pourri vessel. Date: 1769–1771. Place: Cologne, Germany. Height 37 cm; width 26 cm., A white ceramic vessel with a flared scalloped rim and pedestal base sits next to a separate domed lid decorated with molded flowers; the vessel has painted landscape scenes in green and brown on its rounded body and purple edging along the rim, scallops, and base, while the lid features molded flowers and leaves in green, purple, yellow, and pale blue with purple scalloped trim and small perforations, all set against a neutral gray background.
