Shepherdess with a Sheep, Kaendler, Johann Joachim 1706–1775, sculptor; Koenigliche Porzellain Fabrique, Meissen 1710–1763, manufacturer. Porcelain figurine on an oval base with rocaille and a tree trunk with a leafy branch: a young woman in a dancing running? pose wearing a flowing flowered half-length skirt, black-and-gold striped bodice, small handbag tied at the back below a basque, blouse with puffed sleeves tied at the elbow with a blue ribbon; a red sash with long ends loosely thrown over the left shoulder and tied at the waist. Medium-length pinned-up hair falling in curls; she wears a hat with a blue ribbon. She holds a shepherd's staff upper part whipped resting on the head of a sheep lying at her feet. Her head is tilted slightly left and she holds a flower whipped in her raised left hand. 19th/20th century after a model ca. 1750, Saxony, Meissen. Figurine, height 23.5 cm., A porcelain figurine of a woman standing on a decorative base next to a reclining sheep, with the woman shown in profile holding a long wooden staff and wearing a hat, a blouse, a corseted bodice, and a flowing skirt with an apron; the skirt and apron show floral decoration and a draped red cloth with gold trim, the blouse is white with blue trim at the cuff, the bodice has dark stripes, the hat is pale with blue detail, the woman’s hair is grayish, the staff is brown, the sheep is white with textured fur, the base is white with gold accents and small green painted foliage, and there is a small brown bucket with green leaves attached near the woman’s waist against a neutral gray background.
