Fireplace screen, origin unknown, Empire style, wattle ornament, plant decoration, rosette ornament, decorative vases. Rectangular mahogany-veneered frame filled with patterned silk fabric, mounted on a pair of bipod supports. Posts and horizontal stiles are angular; the lower stile is an openwork brass strip with a wattle motif. Supports set in cubes are two arched, tapering angular legs ending in angular feet. Fabric stretched on an inner frame inserted from above into grooves of the side posts, enclosed by narrow slats; upper stile topped with a roller added during conservation replacing a non-original simy-profile strip. Brass rosettes on the sides of the shaft. Fabric: yellow plain-weave ground with a red satin pattern originally reversed color arrangement: central oval field with a vase on a pedestal framed by twigs; remaining field filled with small rosettes. Reverse upholstered with yellow silk fabric previously cherry-red linen canvas. A flat steel spring inside one side frame locks the inner frame with the fabric. Dated 1820–1829, Central Europe. Piece of furniture. Height 111.6 cm, width 60 cm, depth 39.5 cm., A freestanding wooden fire screen with a rectangular frame in dark brown wood stands on two curved legs, each ending in squared feet; the central panel shows a patterned fabric in gold and deep red with a repeating small motif and a larger ornate medallion-like design in the center; a decorative pierced wooden rail in dark brown runs near the bottom of the frame; the background is a neutral light gray.
