Jug, Orvieto ceramic center; 1450– Classified as a jug. Bulky jug with an ovoid belly on a low conical foot, wide high cylindrical neck and prominent triangular spout. Wide, ribbon-shaped vertical handle. Painted in cobalt and ochre with geometric and plant patterns. Front under the spout: circular schematic rosette in cobalt alla porcellana style—a four-petalled leaf-flower with symmetrically arranged branches and rhombuses with double cross-stitching. On both sides of the reserve, highlighted by yellow and ochre borders, three zigzag rays each in the form of flames fiamme surrounding the trigram of St. Bernard. Back: vertical stripes of green zigzags. Rim: trail of triangular hatching in alternating cobalt blue and ochre. Base unglazed. 16th century, Italy; Orvieto. Vessel.
