Jug, Orvieto ceramic center; 1450-, 16th century, Italy. Bulky jug with an ovoid belly on a low conical foot, with a wide, high cylindrical neck and a prominent triangular spout. Wide, ribbon-shaped vertical handle. Painted in cobalt and ochre with geometric and plant patterns. Front, under the spout: circular schematic rosette in cobalt alla porcellana—four-petalled leaf-flower with symmetrically arranged branches and rhombuses with double cross-stitching. On both sides of the reserve, highlighted by a yellow and ochre border, three zigzag rays in the form of flames surrounding the trigram of St. Bernard. Back: vertical stripes of green zigzags. Around the edge: trail of triangular hatching in alternating cobalt blue and ochre. Base unglazed. Subject: saints; Bernardine of Siena Saint; 1380–1444. Vessel. Height 20 cm, width 17 cm, depth 17 cm., A ceramic pitcher with a rounded body, a curved spout, and a single handle sits against a plain gray background; the pitcher is predominantly off-white with hand-painted decorations in blue, turquoise, and yellow, showing brushstroke patterns and banded lines across its surface, a decorative panel on one side with blue and yellow accents, and a slightly irregular rim with a worn, brownish interior edge; the pitcher rests on a small base with faint reflections visible on the smooth surface beneath it.
