Bed finial from the Hospital of St. John of God in Warsaw, Redler, Jan Chryzostom 1704–1779 woodcarver; author, Fontana, Jakub 1710–1773 designer; co-creator, baroque; HOSPITAL BED FINIAL in the form of a pediment with volutes on the sides and a corbel in the middle supporting the bust of a monk; fastened with two pins to the front section of the cornice crowning the canopy. Figure dressed in a habit, with head turned to the left, with tonsure and beard. Outline of the finial and corbel highlighted with a black ribbon stucco inlay. On the corbel, an oval hole filled with a wooden, rotating medallion with inlaid letters on the obverse and reverse missing; above it, inlaid number No. i3. On the runners are garlands made of ribbons, flowers, and acanthus leaves; on the volutes are small brackets with turned, cup-shaped pinnacles. Ca. 1757–1760, Warsaw. Fragment of furniture; height 69.5 cm, width 91 cm, depth 24 cm., A dark wooden bust showing a robed figure turned slightly to one side, with a hooded garment and a beard; the surface shows worn areas with patches of brown and lighter wood tones against the predominant deep black, and the carving displays textured folds in the robe and detailed facial features including a pronounced nose and closed lips, all set against a neutral gray background.
