Bookstand, origin, Hebrew; Jerusalem Israel/Palestine; iconography: Jerusalem cross; function: pilgrim/bookstand. Rectangular wooden bookstand with two foldable sides, decorated with three recessed Jerusalem crosses. Under the central cross is an ink inscription in Hebrew: ??????? Yerushalayim. Main part has profiled edges and can be widened by shifting the central part embedded in a groove to the right. Movable sides have a heart-shaped outline; when unfolded on brass hinges they sit nearly vertical with a slight inclination and are decorated with crosses on the outer surface. 19th/20th century; hardware; height 12.6 cm, width 37.3 cm, depth 2.9 cm., A wooden object rests on a flat wooden base against a gray background; the object and base are brown with visible wood grain and polished surfaces, and the object has a symmetrical shape with two raised, curved platforms and a recessed central section containing carved decorative patterns; the raised areas have smooth rounded edges and the base has layered molding around its perimeter.
