Chalice, glass, 1736–1744. Naliboki, Belarus Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Height 17.2 cm; width 7.7 cm. Round foot, slightly raised, trace of adhesive; baluster stem, solid, faceted, separated from the foot by two plates with a ring, one of them with a flower; separated from the bowl by two plates of different diameter and a knob. Conical bowl, twice puffed out at the base, cut into rows of lenses. Engraved, biaxial decoration covering the entire bowl: seated Saint Jerome holding a skull, a lion at his feet, in a room with bookcases and a side table; inscribed panel reading translated THE LORD'S GIFT OF HIS LIFE / FROM WHICH HE MAKES / THE PRINCE OF SACRIFICES / MAY THE HOUR Strike for so many prosperous years / HOW MANY DROPS IN THE GOBLET / WHAT WINE IS IN THE WINE. Wide geometric-patterned band on the foot. Attributed maker: Naliboki glassworks 1722–1862. Associated names: Hieronim Florian Radziwill 1715–1760; Radziwill family; skull anatomist. Function: vessel, chalice., The image shows a close-up of a clear glass vessel with detailed raised engravings on its surface; a bearded male figure is visible holding a rounded object, a vertical pole with a small suspended figure appears nearby, and floral motifs and textured patterns decorate the surrounding area, while a column of embossed text runs along one side.
