Double-sided gingerbread form. Side A: female figure; Side B: baby in swaddling clothes., woodcarver or gingerbread maker. Gingerbread form; applied/decorative folk art, Silesian Province of Silesia, 1742–1918. Rectangular double-sided form: one side shows a standing female figure with a scarf on her head, leaning on a ladder and holding a broom; the other side shows a baby in swaddling clothes decorated with a geometric ornament. On one edge the date 1830 is engraved; in the middle of the date the letter S against the background of an anchor, below it the letter M mark of the maker. Date: 1830. Dimensions: height 13.5 cm, width 6.5 cm, depth 4.5 cm., A rectangular wooden box with a carved shallow relief of a figure on its top sits on a smooth, pale gray surface. The box is a dark brown with visible grain, worn edges, and some lighter brown highlights where the finish is rubbed. The carved figure area is slightly darker than the surrounding top. The sides of the box show areas of darker and lighter brown shading and a few small, irregular marks. The background and surrounding area are uniform pale gray.
