Double-sided gingerbread mould. Obverse: genre scene. Reverse: three depictions. Genre scenes, gingerbread moulds, babies, children, riders, floral motifs, marriages, plant motifs, decorative art, applied art, gingerbread, social satire, rider on a horse iconography. Silesia Province of Silesia, 1742–1918. Double-sided rectangular mould; on one side a genre scene depicting a man standing by a washtub and engaged in washing, behind him a woman holding a baby in swaddling clothes; below a plaque with an inscription in German. Made in Schwabach. Second side: three different motifs: bottom left, a rider in a hat on a horse; above him a rectangular recess containing a second rectangle with the letters I and B carved, surrounded by geometric and plant ornaments; on the right, another tripartite rectangular recess, each segment with a vertical strip of floral decoration; above it carved initials A and H. 18th–19th century. Form dimensions: height 24.7 cm, width 16.8 cm, depth 4.2 cm., A rectangular wooden panel with a carved scene featuring a pair of standing figures side by side above a low platform, both figures shown from about waist up with carved facial features and detailed clothing; the figure on the left wears a hat with a rounded top and has wavy hair and a patterned garment, while the figure on the right has long hair or a headdress and a layered dress with carved decorative elements and a beaded-looking necklace; beneath them is a carved basin or bowl set on a low table, and a group of carved objects including vessels and a small carved face or mask integrated into the lower decorative area; the wood shows a smooth brown surface with areas of darker brown where the carving is deeper and some lighter brown worn spots and small holes and chips along the edges and within parts of the carved design.
