Wooden tankard, carved, probably a peg tankard;, Pear-shaped wooden tankard, round, richly decorated with bas-reliefs depicting Passion scenes, with a Resurrection of Christ scene on the lid. Lid rim and handle decorated with plant motifs and masks, and studded with ivory pins. Center of the lid has a row of vertically driven metal pegs placed at regular intervals the top two are missing. Inscriptions present. Figurative motifs and human figures; Gospel/Passion iconography. Function: vessel; decorative art; . 17th century, Scandinavia. Height 23.5 cm, width 20.5 cm., A carved wooden tankard with a hinged lid and a curved handle sits against a light grey background; the tankard is dark brown with carved relief scenes wrapping its body and lid, and it is adorned with a few small round light-colored insets on the lid and handle; the handle features ornate scrollwork and decorative flourishes, and the surface shows textured, detailed carving throughout.
