Wooden pear-shaped tankard, so-called peg tankard, round, richly decorated with bas-reliefs depicting Passion scenes, with a Resurrection scene on the lid. The lid rim and handle are decorated with plant motifs and masks, and studded with ivory pins. In the center is a row of vertically driven metal pegs placed at regular intervals the top two are missing. 17th century, Scandinavia. Vessel. Height 23.5 cm, width 20.5 cm., A carved wooden tankard with an open lid sits against a plain light gray background; the tankard is a deep brown color with darker and lighter variations, and its cylindrical body is covered in intricate relief carvings depicting a group of human figures and decorative patterns, while the hinged circular lid shows worn textures and circular carving details; a curved ornate handle with scrollwork and a small pale circular accent attaches the lid to the body, and the object casts a soft shadow on the surface beneath it.
