Half of a kontusz belt, woven by Jan Madzarski weaver; Sluck, ?-ca. 1800; manufactured by Karol Stanislaw Radziwill Manufactory Sluck; ca. 1767–1790. Metal threads; sewn-on silver fringe. Ornament: heads — a flower bush surrounded by a medallion of winding ribbon with small flower branches around the outer edge; center — transverse shelves alternating smooth and motifs of winding ribbon with flowers; borders — vertical floral branches; horizontal like a shelf with winding ribbon; borders also feature ladder and checkerboard motifs. Colors: recto — background of heads, borders, and shelves with tendrils silver, ornament in gold, sky blue, pink, and yellow-green; plain light pink shelves. Verso — background of heads, borders, and shelves with tendrils brown, ornament in silver and pink; smooth dark pink shelves. Weave density approx. 16/40 x2. Analogous flower-bush medallion motifs appear on other Slutsk belts. Date: ca. 1767–1780. Place of origin: Slutsk Grand Duchy of Lithuania / Poland. Type: kontusz belt, clothing accessory. Dimensions: length 289 cm, width 14.4 cm., Two long narrow woven textile strips hang vertically against a pale background, each ending in long fringe. The left strip is primarily light beige with horizontal banding and small floral motifs in muted blue, green, pink, and yellow, and a wider decorative panel near the lower end featuring a floral medallion in pale blue, orange, and beige; a thin floral border runs along its inner edge. The right strip is predominantly warm brown and faded coral with alternating horizontal bands and stylized motifs in beige and muted green, and a larger decorative panel near its lower end showing floral shapes in coral and beige, with a narrow floral border along its inner edge; both strips show slight wear and subtle variations in tone.
