Flat women's slippers of white satin. Flat-cut toe, symmetrical thin leather soles. Endpaper and back of the lining are white glacé leather; front lining is white canvas. On the endpaper an octagonal elongated company label printed in green reads: Józef Marczewski / in Warsaw / at Dluga Street / No. 543. Maker: Józef Marczewski Warsaw, shoemaker's workshop, ca. 1830–ca.1840. Date: 1836. Place of origin: Warsaw. Material/technique: satin, leather, canvas. Function: women's footwear slippers. Dimensions: height 5.2 cm; length 23.5 cm., A pair of worn soft shoes made of a shiny fabric in shades of off-white, beige, and pale cream sit on a flat neutral gray surface; the shoes show fraying edges, creases, and areas of discoloration in light brown and tan, with a slightly darker brown sole visible beneath, and the fabric texture varies between smooth shiny panels and more matte, slightly fuzzy sections.
