Women’s slippers, maker: Johann Dyck Vilnius; shoemaker’s workshop; ca. 1800–ca. 1850. Flat women’s slippers made of white full-grain leather, 1st half of the 19th century. Flat-cut toes, decorated with a rosette of white grosgrain ribbon one rosette preserved. Symmetrical leather soles. White canvas lining and endpaper. A printed company label is glued onto the endpaper of one slipper: “Johann / Dyck / …auf der / Schloss-strase / nr … in / VILNIUS.” Height 6 cm; length 24 cm. Type/place of origin: Vilnius. Materials/subjects: haberdashery decorations, company labels, leather goods, slippers, footwear, women’s footwear, women’s slippers, fashion, clothing accessories., A pair of worn slip-on shoes shown from above on a plain background, the shoes are primarily off-white with visible areas of beige and brown on the interiors, the outer material appears smooth with some scuffs and slight discoloration, one shoe has a decorative rosette made of the same off-white material near the opening, the inner linings show fraying and rougher texture in beige and tan tones, the overall scene includes shades of gray in the background.
