Slippers, origin unknown, 19th century, China. Women's footwear: slippers with haberdashery decorations. Lining of the upper and sole made of pink striped canvas with an illegible rectangular stamp on the lining. Machine sewing supplemented by hand. Leather sole, semicircular under the heel, tapering sharply to a pointed toe. Under the heel a second layer of leather is nailed with metal nails. Height 5.3 cm, length 17 cm., A worn pair of slip-on shoes resting on a flat surface, one shoe positioned slightly in front of the other with the opening of the front shoe facing the viewer to reveal a striped interior lining; the exterior shows a textured, patterned fabric with visible creases and scuffs, and the shoe edges are trimmed with a dark band. The visible colors include tan, brown, black, pink, and beige.
