Kontusz sash, Szczepan Filsjean Manufactory Kobylka; belt manufacturer; 1787–1794. Four-sided silk kontusz sash. Bipartite heads with an ornament of stylised flower bouquets tied with a wide ribbon in a bow; alternating transverse stripes, plain and with a floral tendril ornament. Border made of floral projections. Dominant colors: yellow, dark crimson. Fringe sewn on, made of silk, straw-colored, braided at the top. Ornament - Heads: two floral bouquet motifs each. - Middle: alternating transverse shelves, plain and with a floral tendril motif. - Borders: vertical and horizontal with a tendril motif, checkerboard. Colors - Front: straw background of heads, borders and shelves with tendril, brown ornament; plain shelves half white, half red. - Reverse right: only plain shelves, half blue, half pink. Weave density: approx. 18/36 ×2 in heads, 17/29 ×2 in shelves. Similar bouquet motifs to other contemporary belt heads. Date: 1787–1794. Place of origin: Kobylka, Poland. Function: national costume accessory. Dimensions: length 361 cm, width 28 cm., Two long woven panels hang side by side, each with an ornate floral border and fringe along the bottom. The left panel has a background of pale beige with dark brown floral patterns and horizontal bands that alternate between deep red and beige, and the lower section shows mirrored dark brown botanical motifs on a beige field. The right panel features a darker brown ground with golden beige floral borders and horizontal bands that alternate between pale blue and tan, and its lower section shows mirrored golden beige botanical motifs on the dark brown field. Both panels end in a long golden beige fringe.
