Kontusz sash, Szczepan Filsjean Manufactory Kobylka; belt manufacturer; 1787–1794. Silk kontusz sash, double-sided. Bipartite heads with bouquets of flowers carnations rooted and tied with ribbon; alternating smooth stripes and floral twigs. Trimming with floral twig. Colors: brown, cream, olive and crimson. Sew-on silk fringe in green, straw and ochre. Ornament: - Heads: two floral bouquet motifs each. - Middle: alternating transverse shelves, plain and with a floral tendril motif. - Borders: vertical and horizontal with a tendril motif, as in the shelves; checkerboard. Colors detail: - Principal: cream-pink background of heads, borders and shelves with tendril, brown ornament; plain crimson-pink shelves. - Reverse: right, except for plain green shelves. Signed in the corners of one of the heads, under the main motifs: S. Filsjean. Weave density: approx. 17/48 x2. Place/date: Kobylka, Poland, 1787–1794. Type: clothing accessory, national costume. Bouquet motifs similar to motifs in other contemporary kontusz belts., A rectangular piece of woven fabric showing a central vertical panel with a mirrored floral motif in a dark brown color on a light beige background, flanked by decorative borders featuring repeating floral patterns in the same dark brown and beige. The central design includes stylized large flower forms with leaves and stems arranged symmetrically in a group of floral clusters, and the borders display a band of small flower shapes surrounded by narrow geometric edging. The fabric shows areas of wear and fraying with loose threads and slight discoloration in places, and there is a fringe of twisted and frayed yarns along one short edge with a mix of beige, brown, and hints of faded pink and green threads.
