Fragment of a kontusz belt; Polish; 18th century; Gdansk place of origin. Double-sided, semi-solid men's clothing accessory kontusz belt for national costume; length 150 cm, width 26.5 cm. Geometric-floral ornament: transverse plain stripes and alternating geometric ornaments rhombuses with rosettes; border ornamented with diagonal stripes with a pattern of leaves and small rhombuses. Colors: blue, gold, and red., The image shows two long narrow textile panels side by side on a pale background; the left panel has a patterned beige base with horizontal strips of deep red fabric and a fringe of beige-gold threads at the bottom, while the right panel has a similar patterned beige base with horizontal strips of pale green fabric and a frayed lower edge. The patterned areas feature diamond and linear woven motifs in beige and light gold tones, and there are small circular embroidered accents in muted pink and gold along the borders. The textiles show signs of wear with some loose threads, fraying, and slight discoloration in places.
