Back of a chasuble. Fragment of red amaranth satin fabric, embroidered; originally likely intended for the back of the chasuble as suggested by the fabric shape. Embroidery pattern imitates wide lace with a floral ornament distributed in two semicircular and one meandering stripe. Between the lace stripes are tall, curved branches with bird cherry flowers. Embroidery worked in silk yarn using split stitch, satin stitch, laid stitch, cord, and knots. 18th century, possibly Poland/ Germany/ France. Liturgical vestment. Width: 50 cm; overall length 100 cm, width 65 cm., A single rectangular textile panel with a rounded bottom displayed on a light background, predominantly deep pink in color with a few areas of bright green and pale cream lace-like embroidery; the surface shows an intricate floral and leaf pattern with clusters of rounded flower shapes and swirling leafy stems in green and cream, and extensive scalloped lace motifs in cream covering much of the center and lower portions, creating layered semicircular bands; the top edge is slightly irregular and frayed, and the fabric appears smooth and slightly glossy with visible stitched edges and delicate embroidered details throughout.
