Church napkin. Napkin made of linen fabric with a rare plain weave. Embroidered with chain stitch using colored silk and gold thread also pierced. In the center, in a wreath of flowers tied with ribbon, is a gold chalice, and above it a gold oval—probably a patera, not a host. In the corners are floral sprigs tied with a ribbon with double loops. A floral tendril runs around the edges. The flowers are stylized rather than purely decorative. Flower colors: green, brown, blue, sky blue, pink, tobacco. Narrow gold lace sewn around the edges now very damaged. Fabric density: 30 weft threads, 23 warp threads per cm. 2nd half of the 18th century, Poland. Materials: linen, silk, gold thread. Height 100 cm, width 105 cm., A square light beige fabric with visible creases and faint stains has a decorative embroidered border of green vine-like stems with small blue and brown flowers and leaves; the corners show clusters of similar flower motifs in brown, blue, and green. The center contains an embroidered vertical oval of green vines with small blue and brown flowers enclosing a gold-colored goblet shape and a round gold element above it. The edges have a gold braided trim, and overall colors visible include beige, green, blue, brown, and gold.
