Lace fragment, Brussels, early 18th century. Pattern with motifs of a large leafy-palmette bouquet emerging from a vase similar to a pear. Above the bouquet is a heart-shaped palmette. Few de brides-style connections with picots. The lace is dense and therefore probably of the opaque type. The lower edge is gently serrated, the upper one straight. Brussels lace; materials: lace. Width 41 cm, length 356 cm., A large rectangular piece of intricately patterned lace laid flat, showing an overall cream color with subtle variations in tone and a gray background visible through many open areas; the lace features a repeating floral and foliate motif with ornate curved shapes, scalloped lower edge, and a few small irregular holes within the mesh; the texture appears delicate and finely worked with dense embroidered outlines and more open netted sections, and there is a narrow straight upper edge with a slightly different finish.
