Chasuble, liturgical vestment. Genoese velvet, patterned, convex, with a regularly repeating motif of a stylized bouquet of flowers in vases enclosed in a thick heart-shaped net; mesh fastened with palmettes. Colors: sapphire blue ornament on a cream-gold background; columns of solid material in gold-beige. Ornamentation partly illegible due to large defects; made of stylized plant forms. 15th/16th century. Place of origin possibly Italy or France; sides: Genoa. Dimensions: length 122 cm, width 64 cm back., A rectangular textile panel with a central vertical strip of patterned tan fabric flanked by wider panels of patterned blue fabric, the blue panels showing a repeating ornate motif in lighter blue and tan tones; the tan strip has a swirling floral-like pattern in slightly darker tan and is bordered by narrow decorative seams; the top edge widens into a shallow V-shaped yoke of the same tan fabric with visible worn patches and lighter areas; the blue side panels exhibit areas of wear and fading with irregular lighter spots and subtle variations in blue and cream; overall colors visible are blue, tan, cream, and lighter beige, and the textile shows a slightly distressed, aged texture.
