Fabric fragment, fragments of silk patterned fabric, two-color damask, 1st half of the 18th century, France . Salmon-pink plain-weave background with pearly-blue decoration. Two warp colors pink and blue and two weft colors pink and blue. Subornament formed by released warp thread in the background color; in the pattern area the subornament drawing is not connected to the wefts by any weave. Pattern: winding lace ribbon subornament with large and small flowers on winding stems—peonies or roses; stripes and floral motifs. Height 74 cm; edge 0.5 cm; other dimensions unspecified., A rectangular piece of patterned fabric with a faded floral brocade design lies against a dark background; the fabric shows a palette of muted pink, pale blue, beige, and hints of gold, with areas of wear and slight discoloration creating darker beige and brownish smudges; the woven floral motifs include a group of stylized blossoms and leaves repeated across the surface, and the edges of the fabric are frayed with loose threads visible at the corners and along the sides.
