Fragment of pink silk brooch fabric with a fanciful and floral pattern in the Bizarr type. Early 18th century, France. Pattern: arrangement of intertwining tendrils with fanciful forms—some half-vegetal, half-animal fantastic winged dragons, others topped with sharp edges like poppy-head shafts. Construction: satin with warp cover and simple weave background; other motifs brocaded with metal threads. Colors: pink ground; brocades in silver, green, pale pink; silver metal thread with a loose braid. Width of fabric: 54.5 cm. Report dimensions: height 60 x width 27 cm; overall height 106 cm, width 54 cm., Classification: patterned silk fabric, fragment., A rectangular piece of patterned fabric with a faded background in shades of pale pink and beige, featuring a repeating ornamental design of flowing curved vines and large stylized leaves in muted gray-green with small olive accents. The fabric shows a few scalloped circular motifs in off-white and pale tan, and several areas of paler beige and blush tones creating a softly variegated surface. The design includes a group of curling tendrils and featherlike shapes in light pink and cream, and the edges of the textile show darker narrow borders in deep brown-black. The textile surface has visible signs of wear with several thin darker streaks and small frayed spots along the outer edge.
