Fabric fragment, patterned silk damask, early 18th century, France. Yellow semi-silk damask with floral-fantasy motifs; background is warp-covered satin with a plain-weave ornament. Decorated with stylized large leaves with frayed edges, small heart-shaped leaves, small leaves and flowers, blades of grass, small fruit, details evoking Far Eastern architecture, and openwork lace-like elements in a bizarre style. Color: Jaune d'or Newton. Pattern scale larger than preserved fragment. Dimensions: height 34 cm, width 23.5 cm., A rectangular piece of worn fabric with frayed edges and loose threads displayed against a dark background, the fabric showing an intricate woven floral and geometric pattern visible through texture and subtle sheen, with areas of thinning and small holes and a horizontal tear near the top; the dominant color of the fabric is golden yellow with variations in tone, and there are a few small labels attached near the lower left corner that contain handwriting and printed marks but their text is not described here; a few stray threads extend from the top and bottom edges.
