Robe à la française robe à paniers à coudes, two-piece, 1764. Pink grosgrain with swirling silver-lamellar brocade, silver lace ribbons and bouquets of flowers; lace ornaments and ribbon. Outer dress manteau open at the front with a pleated train at the back; bodice stiffened with 22 bonings, laced at front and back under the pleats. Elbow-length curved sleeves finished with double flounces trimmed with silver lace. Dress cut in eight panels; quadruple pleats at the back maintain full fabric width, with cuts and fittings at the front of the bodice. Twenty-two long bonings extend beyond the bodice line. Silver lace appliqué on the edges repeats the wavy rhythm of the brocaded pattern. Apron of same fabric, hemmed with a wide ruffle and matching silver lace appliqués. Worn on an oval cornea. Women’s fashion, 18th century., A long, ornate gown displayed on a headless mannequin, made of a pale pink fabric patterned with small floral clusters and leafy sprigs in green, red, and muted brown, with diagonal ribbonlike stripes in a lighter shade; the gown features a fitted bodice with three-quarter sleeves and a full sweeping skirt with a train, and is trimmed with wide, textured metallic lace in a silvery gray that outlines seams and edges; the fabric shows subtle sheen and folded draping, and the background is a plain light gray.
