Pattern made of sheared and looped velvet and metal thread loops; metal thread in the background. 15th century, Italy. Height 97 cm, width 20 cm., A patterned textile with a rich red background and metallic gold woven areas forming stylized leaf and floral motifs; the red sections have a plush, velvety texture while the gold areas appear flatter and slightly shiny; the design shows curving outlines, serrated leaf edges, and a few raised embroidered clusters in a darker gold tone; there are some worn spots and loose threads where the fabric shows fraying and slight discoloration.
