Zupan, Polish clothing. Painter: Franciszek Teodor Eysmond 1859–1931 associated. Geometric ornaments; men's fashion; long zupan, fitted at the top, flared at the bottom. Fastened with hooks and eyes to the neck, concealed fastening. Low, stand-up collar. Long, set-in, tapered sleeves with turn-up cuffs, slit at the bottom and fastened with hooks and eyes. Back cut like a kontusz with a central column of fabric, widened from the waist by semi-flared pleats, adjustable at the top with ribbons. Pockets in the side seams. Materials: silk satin with pearl-brown stripes; back and lining of gray linen canvas. Hand-sewn. Dated 18th/19th century, Poland. National costume. Length 118 cm; bottom circumference 243 cm., A mannequin dressed in a long black cloak with a high collar, showing a striped inner garment in beige tones at the neck and sleeves, with a decorative hanging cord with tassels in gold; a patterned woven sash in muted gold, beige, blue, and red with floral and geometric motifs drapes over the front and features long beige fringe, and the overall color palette includes black, beige, gold, red, and blue.
