Stole made from a kontusz sash, Poland; 2nd half of the 19th century with 18th-century, Oval ends palletes trimmed with narrow white cotton braid—cut from the heads of the sash so the center of each pallete is composed of flower heads from flower bushes. Horizontal stripes alternate with floral tendrils and strap motifs in the reserves. Colors: brown for the flowers and pattern backgrounds with tendrils; yellow and salmon for the backgrounds of the heads and shelves with the straps. Lined with blue cotton damask. Kontusz sash origin, floral and strap ornament; liturgical vestment. Length 154 cm, width 16 cm., A long ornamental fabric piece resembling a looped scarf with two long hanging bands, displaying a patterned weave in shades of gold, brown, and muted pink, with a textured blue underside at the curved top ends; the hanging bands show alternating horizontal stripes and floral motifs in gold and dark brown, ending in rounded teardrop-shaped panels bordered in pale trim that contain centered cross-shaped embellishments and dark floral designs; the background is white and the whole object casts soft shadows.
