Caption
Stole, liturgical vestment. Stole originally part of a sash—still with transverse shelves, alternately plain and with a floral tendril motif. Ends palettes are sharply widened with slightly rounded lower edges, giving them a bell-shaped form. Crimson background with ornament in dark brown, creamy green, and dark blue. A fragment of a cross made of silver braid is sewn onto one end. Lining of yellow silk. 2nd half of the 18th century, Poland. Length 222 cm, width 21 cm., A long fabric band with a flared end laid on a white background, showing a repeating horizontal stripe pattern with decorative floral-like motifs; the fabric appears beige or tan as the base color with accents of muted green and pale blue in the motifs and darker brown outlining the pattern and edges, and a brownish inner lining visible along the folded edge.
