Blue-pink brocaded and embroidered grosgrain. Pattern created by thicker and thinner embroidered stripes, a lace ribbon winding in the background brocaded with white weft, and larger and smaller bouquets of roses brocaded with colored wefts. Colors: pink-blue background blue and pink warp. Brocading: white, celadon, pale green, pale anguere, brownish-brown, grass green. Warp embellishments: white, blue, graphite. Sub-weft embellished with white weft. Width of selvedge edge 0.7 cm; width of the piece 54 cm; repeat 54 x 38.5 cm. 18th century, France. Height 67 cm, width 54 cm., A worn rectangular piece of fabric with uneven edges lies against a dark background, showing a muted pale gray base with a central square patch of soft beige or light brown fabric; scattered across the surface are several faded floral or abstract clusters in shades of green and muted pink, with touches of rusty red and pale yellow, and thin horizontal bands of a slightly darker beige running across the fabric; the material shows creases, small tears, and areas of abrasion with darker gray and faint black marks, and a small light-colored tag peeks from one edge.
