Figural tapestry by Franz Geubels 1535–1590, 16th century Flanders Brussels. Tapestry depicting a battle scene and interior furnishings: in the foreground, two groups — on the right a woman with children seated and a standing soldier, on the left two seated soldiers with bearded men standing behind them. In the background, a city gate being forced open by soldiers with a pole, an army with banners beyond, and a mountain landscape. No border. Colors: green, red, sapphire blue, sand, and yellow. Woven fabric, height 215 cm, width 217 cm. Date text also notes 2nd half of the 19th century in provenance., A richly colored woven textile scene shows a group of elaborately dressed figures in an outdoor setting, with a mix of armor, flowing robes, plumed helmets, and patterned fabrics. The dominant colors include gold, blue, red, green, and beige, with accents of darker blue and pale yellow. Several seated and standing figures occupy the foreground, some holding staffs or banners and others with arms around companions; a few children or smaller figures are near the seated adults. To the left a group gathers near a tall doorway with vertical panels, while behind them more figures and horses form a procession that stretches toward a wooded background and distant hills. The ground is decorated with floral and foliate motifs, and trees with dense canopies fill the middle and background. The textile has a narrow solid border in a muted teal color framing the entire composition.
