Fabric fragment, fragments of silk fabrics, patterned brocaded silk, 2nd half of the 18th century, England, fabrics with preserved selvedge, height 31 cm, width 27.5 cm. Weave structure: background - plain weave with a grosgrain structure, liseré pattern sub-weave, brocaded. Pattern: floral motifs developing around a winding silver ribbon; fanciful flowers resembling roses and polka dots; winding lace-ribbon motif with delicate twigs entwining it. Background light with a liseré effect, brocaded with colorful threads and silver lamellar and tightly braided silver thread. Overlay for the meandering pattern formed by tiny leafy branches and ribbons crisscrossing and waving opposite to the main ribbons. Brocade threads: light and dark blue, light and dark pink, yellow, white, light and dark green, two types of metallic threads, and a sorbec thread with a pink core. Colors: white background; pattern in celadon green, pink, pale blue, lemon, yellow, brown, burgundy, grass green, white, heather, silver. Width of the weaving edge selvage: 0.6 cm., A rectangular fabric panel in off-white or cream is centered against a dark background, showing a loose embroidered floral design with a few areas of exposed threads and fraying at the edges. Several clusters of stitched flowers appear in shades of deep red and burgundy, with scattered accents of olive and moss green forming leaves and stems. There are a few blue and yellow brushlike stitched areas near the lower center, and some thin dark gray or black outline stitches suggesting circular shapes across the surface. The fabric shows a subtle horizontal weave texture and slight irregularities in color, with a few loose white threads along the sides and corners.
