Fragment of silk fabric, mid-18th century, England possibly. Patterned Gros de Tours, broché silk with rep-weave background and broaching threads persienne. Design of twigs and bouquets in a rhomboidal network of small silver motifs; branches bear grape clusters, rose buds and single flowers. Colors: white background with padding threads in light and dark pink, light and dark green, light and dark blue; delicate floral and fanciful motifs. Dimensions: length 38 x ? cm; height 21 cm; width 57 cm., A rectangular piece of light beige fabric with a central embroidered floral cluster and smaller matching floral clusters toward the sides, showing a few rosebud shapes in muted pinks and greens, a few dark gray and black leaf-like motifs, and a few small grape-like round shapes in dusky pink and maroon; the background fabric has a subtle woven leaf pattern in a slightly lighter tone, and there are scattered short vertical dash-like stitches in gray; the edges of the fabric show a sewn hem and a few loose threads, and the outer surrounding area is a dark brown.
