Fragment of silk fabric, patterned brocade, 18th century France. Floral design with dark and light orange roses, light and dark blues, celadon and olive greens, silver, orange, and yellow on a white background. Grosgrain weave with weft texture liseré. Height 53 cm, width 21 cm. Creator and provenance unknown., A rectangular fabric sample laid flat against a dark background shows a light cream base with a floral pattern in muted colors; a few clusters of flowers in shades of dusty blue, muted red, soft pink, and deep navy are connected by winding olive and moss green stems and leaves, with small touches of pale yellow at some flower centers. A horizontal ribbon-like band of slightly shinier cream runs across the middle, and there are faint textured or lace-like woven areas in the same cream tone that form subtle oval and scalloped shapes behind the floral motifs. The fabric edges are slightly frayed, and the overall surface shows fine woven threads and a gentle sheen.
