Velum made of linen batiste embroidered along the edges with gold metal thread in a floral tendril pattern, trimmed with narrow gold bobbin lace. In the center of each edge is the IHS monogram with a cross. 19th century, Germany, liturgical parament, height 42 cm, width 41 cm., A square cloth with a pale off-white center and a decorative border in a muted gold tone, showing a scalloped edge and a repeating floral or leaf motif in the gold thread; the fabric surface is slightly wrinkled with faint shading variations and a few small darker spots; a small diamond-shaped paper or tag lies near one corner on top of the cloth; the background behind the cloth is a smooth gradient of light gray to medium gray.
