Church napkin. Church napkin of thin white linen, sewn from five rectangular pieces of fabric in the shape of a cross. Embroidered with evenly spaced projections of stylized floral sprigs in gold, dark pink, and straw. One side rectangle bears an embroidered gold IHS monogram within a halo; the opposite rectangle, on the edge, has the inscription ANNA Z RUSOCKICH ORZECHOWSKA. R. 1743. 1743. Poland. Fabrics. Height 290 cm; width 290 cm. Creator: Anna Orzechowska née Rusocka 18th century; fl. ca. 1743. Function: church paraments / sacred art; furnishings for Evangelical churches. Subjects: flowers, leaves, plant ornaments., A cloth arranged in a cross-like shape on a dark gray background, made of lighter fabric panels with a woven texture; the fabric is mostly off-white or cream with a few small yellow floral-like motifs scattered across several panels, one panel showing a sunburst motif in yellow, and another lower panel featuring faint pink floral motifs; the central area of the cloth appears discolored to a greenish-beige with several dark speckles and spots, and there are small frayed or worn edges along the fabric.
