Caption
Lace fragment, needle-stitched lace, highly elongated openwork ovals. Above the edge ornament, against a mesh background, a winding line interrupted by openwork circles. In the bends of the line, a rather large three-leafed branch projection. 18th century, probably France. Width 3.5 cm, length 42.5 cm., A horizontal length of delicate lace in a creamy off-white color stretches across a gray background, featuring a fine hexagonal mesh ground with a scalloped lower edge and a looser decorative upper edge; the lace shows a repeating floral motif with small three-petaled leaf shapes and a sinuous vine of linked rings and oval loops, plus a few irregular open areas and frayed thread ends.
