Lace fragment - ruffle, lace, plant patterns, floral patterns, palmettes ornament, clothing accessories, bobbin lace, Brussels lace. A ribbon runs across the entire width of the ruffle, dividing the surface into opposing triangles, fastened with either small palmettes similar to the fruit of a pineapple or larger leafy ones. The created triangular fields contain large motifs of leafy palmettes or palmettes on a pedestal. The backgrounds feature winding floral sprigs. Various mesh backgrounds with picots. The upper and lower edges are serrated to match the arrangement of the motifs. c. 1700, Brussels; lace; height 32 cm, width 230 cm, A length of delicate lace with an ornate floral and scrollwork pattern laid flat against a dark background; the lace is a pale off-white or cream color with a fine mesh filling and raised embroidered outlines forming large stylized flowers, leaves, circular motifs, and curved bands, along with scalloped edges and areas of openwork where the dark background shows through, and a few loose threads visible along the top edge.
