Church napkin of thin white linen 25 warp and weft threads per cm covered with embroidery featuring a pattern of large, evenly distributed, stylized Eastern flower bouquets. Flat, double-sided, pierced embroidery, using silk and gold thread. Very fine stitches. Cream and gold predominate in the ornament. Edged with cream veining. All edges with warp or weft threads ripped out to obtain a short fringe, approx. 1 cm long. 17th/18th century, Poland. Materials: linen, silk, gold thread. Height 174 cm, width 65.5 cm. Function: church napkin; motif: flowers, leaves, plant ornaments; sacred art; used in churches and chapels., A rectangular textile laid flat on a neutral background showing a pale cream or off-white base with decorative floral motifs in a muted tan or light brown. The fabric has frayed edges and visible creases and folds. Symmetrical ornate floral arrangements appear along the length, with a few larger, branching spray designs near the shorter ends and several smaller, repeating floral motifs spaced across the center. The decorative motifs include stylized leaves and petal shapes arranged in mirrored patterns. There are slight discolorations and spots on the fabric, and a small attached tag or label at one short corner. The background around the textile is a soft gray.
