Fragment of Brussels lace; floral ornaments of densely placed roses, leaves, rocaille and over-stylized rooster combs. The flowers and bridge background were made using the bobbin technique. Some sections were executed on a point de gaze background, both background and flowers using needlework technique. The background contains only sparse bridge connections. The central section features irregular medallions on a point de gaze background with small flowers. Lace, ca. 1850, Belgium. Length 500 cm, width 34 cm., A wide piece of lace fabric with intricate floral and leaf patterns spread against a solid background, showing delicate openwork, circular flower motifs, scalloped edges, and dense embroidered areas; the lace appears in an off-white or cream color, the background is gray, and a small folded paper corner with a red wax seal is visible at one edge.
