Caption
Lace fragment, edge ornament on one side — a kind of net with numerous loops small, round and slightly larger oval into which small twigs are woven. Above the edge ornament, against a netting background, in regular projections alternate: a twig and a round point. 18th–19th century, France. Materials: lace, fabric. Dimensions: width 8.5 cm, length 408 cm., A horizontal strip of delicate lace in an off-white or cream color stretches across a flat gray background, featuring a fine hexagonal mesh ground dotted with small embroidered floral motifs and tiny round accents; the lower edge has a scalloped border composed of interconnected loops and oval shapes with denser embroidery, while the upper edge is relatively straight with slight waviness and occasional small embroidered loops along it; the overall pattern is airy and detailed, with visible variations in thread thickness and subtle shadows where the lace lifts from the background.
