Collar, origin unknown, women's clothing accessory. Needle lace collar with floral tendril pattern featuring large partially raised flowers on a mesh background. Diamond mesh finished with single or triple picots imitating leaves; serrated edges. Collar sewn from two pieces, extended at the bottom. 19th century, Europe. Width 33 cm, length 97 cm., A wide, semicircular piece of delicate lacework with an open, netlike background and an overall light cream color is displayed against a smooth medium-gray backdrop; the lace features a repeating arrangement of ornate floral and circular motifs, raised rosette details, looping ribbonlike shapes, and scalloped edges with small rounded picot trims, creating a layered, textured surface with areas of dense stitching alternating with more open mesh, and the composition forms a curved neckline-like shape with symmetrical extensions on either side.
