Lace fragment, lace, Pattern composed of branched floral stem motifs. Joining de brides with picots. Lower edge serrated into single or triple picots, upper edge straight. Sewn in two pieces. 2nd half of the 17th century, France. Lace, length 98 cm, width 3.5 cm., A vertical strip of delicate lace runs down the center of the image against a large rectangular background; the lace is off-white or cream with an intricate openwork pattern of loops and floral-like shapes, while the background is a muted brown or taupe with a slightly textured appearance and a narrow off-white border along the outer edges.
