Lace fragment, needle lace, pattern composed of branched floral stem motifs with connecting spans of picots. Lower edge serrated into alternating single and triple picots; upper edge straight. 2nd half of the 17th century, France. Material: lace. Dimensions: length 50 cm, width 3.5 cm., A vertical strip of delicate openwork lace in off-white runs down the center of the image against a large rectangular background in muted brown, with a narrow border of light beige around the outer edges; the lace has an irregular, looping pattern with small rounded motifs and a slightly uneven edge, and the visible colors are off-white, muted brown, and light beige.
