Fabric fragment, 18th-century silk fabric, France. White grosgrain background, pattern displayed and brocaded with threads. Brocade threads: celadon, lemon yellow, ink, pink, orange, pale pink, faded red dry rose color tied with a twill weave; brocade threads green. Motifs: floral sprigs forming winding S-shaped tendrils; tiny flowers and fruit combined with sprigs of blooming, heavy flowers with calyxes resembling lilies or tulips; expressive, full flowers with a soft outline. Height 39.9 cm, width 19 cm., A rectangular fabric fragment with frayed edges placed on a dark background, showing a pale gray-green base with an overall floral damask pattern in an off-white shade; several areas of shiny, textured velvet patches appear in deep burgundy, rust red, and golden yellow, with one irregular vertical strip of pale silver and green threads; a few small torn threads and worn spots reveal underlying weave, and a small folded paper object rests near one edge with visible color but no transcription.
