Fabric fragment, silk, unknown origin, 18th-century silk fragment. Pattern: symmetrical composition of flower bouquets and a lace ribbon. Ground: grass-green background grosgrain weave with a delicate, fanciful drawing of clouds—leaves achieved by releasing weft threads. Embroidery/broaching colors: blue, olive, white, pale pinks and reds, cherry red, cream, salmon, black. Measurements: reported 29.5 x ?; selvedge width 0.6 cm; overall height 32 cm, width 77 cm. Date: second half of the 18th century; possible Russia., A worn piece of fabric with an irregular curved shape lies against a dark background, predominantly olive green with patches of faded pink, burgundy, brown, beige, and cream forming floral and abstract motifs; the fabric shows frayed edges and loose threads, areas of abrasion and thinness, and several clusters of brushy, textured color where the weave is disturbed, while a small folded cloth tag of pale color is tucked near one edge.
